Core Stability

YOUR CORE IS YOUR FOUNDATION

Your core is the link between your upper and lower body

The core’s two functions are (1) to take the load off your spine and (2) to transfer force from the lower body to the upper body and vice versa. The core muscles aren’t just abs as we have been conditioned to believe. Just because someone has a “six-pack” does not mean they have a strong and stable core. Core stability relies heavily on training the muscles of the back, glutes and hips in addition to the abs. Basically, if you “unplug” the legs, arms, and head, you’ll be left with the core.

The Foundation is in Core Training

Strength comes from stability
It’s not just about sit-ups, crunches, and getting “six pack” abs. Actually, if you are only training your abs, you could be setting yourself up for problems such as low-back pain. Core stability is the ability to control, or stabilize, the body while your arms or legs move. A strong and stable core will allow you to produce more force when you move and also increases endurance so you could do more without getting tired as quickly.

Balance
Having adequate core stability allows you to stay upright in case you misstep and lose balance. So you’ll more safely walk on an icy sidewalk, carry groceries, lift a child, walk up a steep flight of stairs, or play your sport.

Posture
With core stability exercises comes correct posture since exercising all the torso muscles aligns them. Correct posture not only looks better but it helps the body move the way it was intended to.

Breathe Better
Another benefit to core training? Breathing better. The same muscle balance that helps you stand up straight also opens your airways, making inhalations and exhalations easier.

Better Athletic Performance
Core stability improves performance. Whatever your sport, you are likely to get your power and speed from your core. You could be a runner running a race, a pitcher throwing a curveball, a tennis player swinging their racket, a rower paddling, a golfer swinging a club, or a mom carrying her child, the strength produced from your stable core will keep you at the top of your game.

We have been given a wonderful gift in the human body. Take care of it.”
